Water Treatment Operator

What You’ll Do

Operate and maintain water treatment equipment (pumps, meters, filters, tanks, valves, VFDs).

Monitor process parameters, adjust controls, and ensure effluent meets permit requirements.

Collect samples, prepare chemicals, perform routine water analyses, and record results.

Perform construction, commissioning, decommissioning, and demobilization of water treatment systems.

Pump, transfer, and manage sludge; clean and lubricate equipment; perform routine repairs.

Maintain logs, reports, and site housekeeping; assist in training other operators.

Follow strict safety procedures including confined-space entry, lock-out/tag-out, and PPE protocols.

Potential Trade-offs

Frequent and sustained project-based travel nationwide — candidates must be open to long assignments away from home.

Exposure risks on hazardous sites (lead, PCBs, H2S, arsenic, other chemicals) — requires HAZWOPER training and strict PPE use.

Physically demanding: heavy lifting (up to ~50 lbs), long days, outdoor work in variable weather, noisy conditions, confined-space entry.

Schedule: typically M–F with occasional Saturdays; subject to project timelines and site needs.
Qualifications / Requirements
-
40-hour HAZWOPER training (current refresher required).

Experience with water treatment systems and/or hazardous waste/construction site experience.

Ability to operate heavy construction equipment and water treatment/process controls.

HS diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license preferred.

Must pass background check, physical, and drug screen.

Able to wear and work in various PPE (Levels C/D; potential A/B) including respirators/SCBA when required.

Comfortable with frequent travel and physically demanding tasks.
