Designing an 18 MGD surface water plant, I’m choosing between an s::can spectro::lyser and a Hach UV-VIS probe (with lab TOC as a check) to drive feed-forward alum dosing; what’s your real-world maintenance burden and signal stability through high-color events? I want dependable control without turning the instrument bay into a full-time job.
I’ve had the s::can stay stable through “high-color events” by ordering the 2 mm path length and turning on CombiClean air-wiping twice a day; without the short path we saw clipping and about 10% wander that made alum feed twitchy. Are you set on a path length yet?
Biggest stability win for us was capping probe-driven alum changes to about [redacted]/L per minute; when “high-color” hit, that kept the pump from hunting without extra babysitting on both s::can and Hach. Do you have room in the PLC to add that limiter?
